IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN DO? - Williams, USA |
I'm male - 32 years old. I noticed that my penis is rather small, or rather slim. Is there something that can be done? Is there some kind of hormone to make it more big or more fat?
I forgot to say that I'm not married.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
What are the dimensions of the erect penis ? What about the other bodily sexual characteristics ? Are they normal ? And how about erection quality ? There is a wide range of normalcy for penis size and you shouldn't worry unless it is pathologically small. You could email me an erect penile photograph taken from two or three angles. Please place a scale (ruler) along the penile shaft whilst taking pictures. If you wish to send a picture, please write in for a separate email id that you may send it to. Hormones will, in general, not improve penis size except in some forms of hypogonadotropism etc.. Penis enlargement surgery is still controversial and is seldom performed without serious reason.
I TRIED EXERCISING BUT... - Jhon Pauls, Canada |
I am a 20 year old boy worried because of a problem I am having since the last two three years. My tits are larger then others. I tried exercising but it din't work. Please suggest how to get rid of this problem without surgery.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
You probably have what is known as gynecomastia, although it is difficult for me to diagnose that conclusively without examining you. Most cases of gynecomastia will eventually require surgery.
VENOUS LEAKING VALVE - Jenifer, Australia |
After being diagnosed with Peyronie's disease and after a succesful surgery, my partner suffers from "venous leaking valve" and although is able to get a proper erection and has no signs of impotence, is not able to maintain the erection for the entire intercourse. He wears a penile ring and his penis has a normal straight up erection. We would like to find out if there is anything else that could be done, avoiding the use of any injection.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
What technique was used for the operation ? And how long ago was the surgery performed ? If your partner has no contraindications, he could try one of the new PDE5 inhibitor drugs. These might help.
HAVE YOU HEARD OF SUCH A THING BEFORE? - Charles, England |
Do you have any any articles and information about a newly observed diminishment of semen volume and ejaculatory velocity (The semen just drips out now) in a 50 year old healthy and vigourous male?
Have you heard of such a thing before?
What type of doctor should be contacted and what type of tests should be done?
Are there therapies to improve semen volume and ejaculatory velocity ?
Have you heard of Kegel’s exercises for men or any other similar ways of improving the musculature responsible for ejaculation?
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
A decrease in ejaculatory force and a slight reduction in semen volume are normal with advancing age. In fact, in later decades, ejaculation becomes just an ooze. The Kegel's set of exercises may help somewhat but not completely. Some of the ejaculate could also be going back into the urinary bladder. There are no medicines for this. Androgen supplementation might help somewhat, but beware of the many dubious supplements that are doing the rounds. All this is part of the normal ageing process and will not affect your sex life in any other way. Check out our Andropause - Male Menopause section on www.andrology.com/andropause.htm.
INFORMATION REQUIRED ABOUT ERECAID - Ravindar, Singapore |
I had surgery for rectal cancer in February of '99 and some nerves were damaged. As a result I am not able to have an erection. I am a type 2 diabetic but have never had difficulties prior to my surgery. My Urologist tried Viagara, which did not work. He feels that a pump would do the trick.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
The "pump" is certainly one option. But you are also likely to benefit from self-injection. How old are you ? If you are young and have many years of sex ahead of you, you could even be a candidate for penile prosthetic implantation surgery.
ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION - Lawrence, Bangalore, India |
I have had erectile dysfunction for about 4 yrs. Now, I take blood pressure medicine, but I did before and seemed to have no problems. It just happened slowly over a period of a year. I take 180mg of dilzem, and 50 mg of cozaar daily. I have a non-painful peyronies condition. The left curvature is, I think, less than 30 degrees. I just can't seem to get a full, stiff erection and therefore find penetration almost impossible. I just turned 59. In all other respects I am fine.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
Your problem could either be due to the B.P. medication itself or due to the recent onset of penile arterial insufficiency. This will need to be checked. Ostensibly, the penile curvature secondary to the "Peyronie's disease" is not causing any psychosexual difficulty. You'll need a few special tests.
PEYRONIE'S DISEASE - George, New York |
I have peyronie's disease (I guess), I have not seen a doctor about it because it causes no discomfort. my symptons are : curvature of my penis toward the right when erect. This curvature seems to start about the middle of my penis but is more pronounced at the head. When I have an erection, I can feel a continious hard, lumpy mass approximately half the diameter of a pencil and about an inch long. I can also feel it when I am not erect. Will this ever go away on it's own or will I need surgery to remove it? I do not want to have sugery. Are there any other real alternatives. By the way, I have had previous episodes of hematospermia and in retrospect it seems that shortly after my first incidence, I started to notice the curvature of my penis; could there be a connection? (I did see a doctor for the hematospermia). I would appreciate your response/help.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
The lump (plaque) by itself need not be removed surgically as it is harmless. Other methods won't help either. If rigidity isn't an issue and the deformity doesn't preclude intercourse, you needn't worry. It's difficult to say about the hematospermia though. Was there any injury ?
BEND FROM VIAGRA - Foster, Malaysia |
After a few years of impotence, I recently tried Viagra. The results were puzzling. I acheived an erection in the middle of the night, after about 8 hrs. Then again in the morning, only to find a prominent bend in my penis. No pain, not a complete erection, but concerned about the curve.
Could this be from the Viagra, as this never happened when I was able to achieve erection.
Please advise, I will not take any more, until I get some advice.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
It is extremely improbable that the bend in your penis is due to Viagra.
PENILE CURVATURE - Mickie, USA |
Since I was thirteen I noticed my penis began to bend. Now I am 20 and it is worse and I believe I may have Peyronie's disease. Even if I didn't have this disease, I wanna get treatment and possibbly surgery to correct this curvature. Please advise me on the economics and procedure of this matter. How would I go about getting help. My income is limited but I want this surgery. Please help.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
What you have is more likely to be a congenital penile curvature than Peyronie's disease. Even though congenital, this form of curvature often becomes noticeable only after puberty when the penis begins to get observed in an erect state. Please read the last paragraph on the main article Curves, Bends and Peyronie's Disease and you'll understand whether you really need surgery.
TESTOSTERONE LEVELS - Bruce, USA |
I am a male age 33. My question to you is this. I just had a testoterone level check at the request of my doctor. As long as I can remember I've never had the "Drive" that so many speak of. I am also on Atacan 16mg for Hypertension. I do not think that this is the cause for my lack of drive. I am married to an understanding wife. Thankfully. I have not received the results from my test. If it is low, what options do I have? What are the risks? I would like to be prepared for when I see my doctor again.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
There is a very specific way of doing a testosterone test. 3 samples at 5 minutely intervals need to be collected. Atacan can be a part culprit. Check your prolactin levels too.
IMPOTENCE - Samson, England |
I am a male, age 52, who was diagnosed as diabetic at age 45 (Type 2). At the same time I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure and began medication for both. At approx the same time I began having trouble maintaining an erection. Also, I seemed to lack sexual interest. Over the past 7 years, my impotence has progressed to the point that I no longer seek female companionship for fear of my inability to obtain an erection. I have tried most of the market medications w/o success, except for injections, which are cumbersome and really not a pleasant alternative. I have discussed the possibility with a doctor of my arteries and/or veins being blocked in the penis, since in November, 1999 I had coronary by-pass surgery. Further, by the fact that my impotence problem began so soon after my diabetic diagnosis, it leads me to believe that my impotence may have been caused by something other than diabetes. Additionally, in June, 1999 I began having signs of Peronias Disease with length and girth becoming smaller and distinct downward turn. I am disappointed with the lack of interest of my urologist. What I am trying to learn is if there is a surgical procedure to correct this if, in fact, blocked arteries/veins and Peronias Disease are the problem. Any feedback and/or advice would be appreciated.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
Your impotence is for the most part arteriogenic. With diabetes, high B.P. and history of a coronary bypass, your options are vacuum therapy or implants. The Peyronie's disease is a separate problem. You can have both the Peyronie's and the impotence corrected with implantation surgery in one sitting.
BENT PENIS ! - Solomon, USA |
Doctor, I woke up a few weeks ago with a bent penis and I'm freaking out about it! It's bent over to the left please tell me what kind of treatment there is for it. I went online and read something about Peyronie's disease and it scared the hell out of me but it said to take large amounts of vitamin E for it so I started taking some. I just broke up with my girlfriend a few months ago and I've been drinking beer almost every night so that I can get to sleep because I'm having a little trouble sleeping at night. Do you think it's possible that it could be the beer and stress. Please tell me what I can do because it's very embarrassing to have sex with someone lately.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
Beer and stress do not cause Peyronie's disease.
How old are you ? Has there been any injury to the penis ? Is there a lump or nodule there ? Do you have pain with/without erection ? Is this a deviation of the entire penis from the base or a curve somewhere in the middle ? You could send an erect penis photograph or a representative line diagram for better advice.
MALE MENOPAUSE - Victor, USA |
Over the past 6 months I have been having night sweats to the point of waking up and being soaking wet. I am 53 years old and wonder if this could be a sign of male menopause?
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
There are many causes of night sweats. The "male menopause" is just one of them. There are many other symptoms that are even more suggestive of the male menopause. These are all listed on Male menopause. Check out if you have any other symptoms from amongst these. After that, you'll need to see your physician to rule out other causes of night sweats. The final diagnosis of the male menopause is made by serum free testosterone estimation.
FORESKIN - Thomson, USA |
My problem is that my foreskin does not retract.
I am not circumcised and masturbate regularly about 3-4 times a week. Earlier my foreskin would not retract at all, but over the last 2-3 years, with regular masturbation, I can retract it a bit. However, I have never been able to masturbate with the foreskin in the retracted (pulled-back) position since it gives me a lot of pain whenever I try doing it. I have read that oral sex is best enjoyed with the foreskin retracted, I will be getting married very soon and do not want to miss out on the pleasures of different types of sex. What should I do? I am somehow not inclined to circumcision, is there any other way out.
Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurti replies... |
The conventional treatment for a tight foreskin is circumcision. However, if you are disinclined, it is possible to relieve the condition without compromising the foreskin. You are absolutely right in that the foreskin needs to be retracted completely for satisfactory sex since the glans penis (part under the foreskin) is the most erogenously sensitive zone of the penis.
